Harassment in the workplace

Have you ever witnessed harassment from a customer to a younger female worker? It is always an awkward situation for everyone that is involved and witnessing what is happening. My worst experience is getting yelled at by some fat scumbag that had nothing better to do, so he chose to come to Dairy Queen and yell at two teenage girls.
People who choose to go to a fast-food joint and pick a fight about how long it is taking to make their food Is absolutely ridiculous. If I saw some old guy bending over the counter screaming at some girl probably making close to minimum wage, I would say something. It is completely uncalled for!
According to Sky News almost two thirds of young women are experiencing some sort of harassment in the workplace harassment . Whether that be sexual or verbal, that number is way to damn high. Young girls don’t deserve this bull shit. Do they think that because we are women they think that can get away with these actions?
I truly would like to understand why people think getting into these altercations with fast food workers. Do they think it is fun to make the entire restaurant stop and stare because we all know that is what happens.
We as fast-food workers should be able to fight back in these situations instead of being walked all over. We are not doormats. Like you chose to come into our place of work and if you are not happy with the wait time or the way we make the food walk out the door opens just as easy to leave as it does for your fat ass to walk in.
I do think that there should be trainings put in place for situations like this wether that be videos or physical training sessions to teach young girls how to deal with getting yelled at or or getting talked to inappropriately for example those jeans make your butt look good. According to law bench.org laws There are penalties for these situations but in the establishments that I have worked in personally and I tell my managers something happened nothing is done. We have had guys comment on coworkers and how they look and somehow, we get in trouble to wear a bigger shirt so that they do not have to stare at our chest. Maybe you should make the uniform more size inclusive so that we don’t have to feel uncomfortable coming in to work.

I think that we should be able to stand up for ourselves if and when a situation occurs because if they are allowed talk to us that way with no consequences, we should be able to do the same with not risking our jobs.
On the other hand if the situation we also have to abide by the rule of the customer is always right. This is a rule is used in all food handling jobs along with customer service jobs. According to Hubspot there is a list of 5 reasons to use this saying which includes making the customer feeling like they have the power. Along with being treated with dignity and respect. This is really hard to deal with in situations like getting screamed at for taking to long to make their food, because if they are unhappy with how the store is being ran, we are in danger of loosing customers and money. Which is a load of dog crap because if your unhappy and screaming at people we do not want you in the store any way. But as the rule states we must apologize and give them a reward for being impatient and rude.

In my personal experience my worst experience was dealing with a customer making a new worker cry and telling her she did a shitty job making the product. All I could say was sorry sir she is just learning. In my head I wanted to curse this man out for coming in and belittling someone that is trying their best while your fat roll is hanging out of your shirt but sure let me treat you with respect while you treat me and my coworker like a pile of dog crap. What happen to the saying treat people the way you want to be treated, because I feel that if I was able to greet you at my register with a smile and I get cursed at I should be able to get cocky.
This is a reoccurring issue in almost every workplace whether it be an office job to working in a hotel or working behind a counter at a food establishment. We need to put a stop to this situation because eventually it will get worse and also become harder to deal with, so if we take care of the issue by standing up for these young girls including myself or by making solutions or consequences for these jerks who decide to make us feel awful about ourselves and the way we do our jobs. If they see that something will happen maybe they will choose to think before they go and decide to make themselves look like a complete fool to everyone else in the establishment.
